A trio of rappers from Atlanta, who only released their first studio album last year, are already making waves in the music industry. The family made rap group, Migos has mainstream artists clambering to collaborate with them and have an impressive net worth to prove it. They are only in their early twenties but are fast establishing themselves as serious performers.
Migos Net Worth: $4.3 Million
These young men had a hit with their first indie release in 2013 that had Drake begging them to make a remix. Their rise to fame has been steady and swift and they continue to make music with the likes of Busta Rhymes, Wiz Khalifa and Justin Bieber, just to name a few. In only a few years they have gone from paying DJ’s to play their songs in local clubs to successful rap artists with a net worth of $4.3 million. Not bad for the start of their career.
The Three Migos
Quavious Marshall, Kirshnik Ball and Kiari Cephus who are now known as Quavo, Takeoff and Offset, respectively, are family members that were all born in Atlanta, Georgia. Quavo is Takeoff’s uncle and Offset is Quavo’s cousin. If that wasn’t confusing enough it’s pretty hard to tell them apart too, Quavo and Takeoff both have dreadlocks, luckily Offset stands out with his short hair and goatee.
They came together in 2009 when they discovered their joint love and respect for groups such as Outkast and The Hot Boys. They initially named themselves Polo Club but decided to change it to Migos in 2010. Quavo stands out as the group’s definite leader with Takeoff and Offset happily following from behind.
They knew they wanted to be famous and had a plan to make it happen. In 2010 and 2011 they visited various clubs in their city every week and bought the DJ’s drinks in exchange for playing their songs. Their persistence paid off and they soon started getting recognition.
Migos Album Releases
When Migos started gaining popularity in the clubs they decided to release an album themselves called Juug Season in 2011. A second album followed shortly titled No Label, which featured a popular song amongst their peers called Bando that definitely got people talking.
It wasn’t until 2013 that these young men really started to cause a sensation in the rap and hip hop world. They rose to fame when they released their catchy single called “Versace”. It was produced by Zeytoven and went viral instantly, reaching 99 on Billboard’s Hot 100. The song portrays exactly how these men feel about money and what they want from their careers.
Throughout the music video they are seen dripping in gold and diamond encrusted jewellery, surrounded by women in a lavish mansion and even walking a leopard on a leash – The ultimate depiction of the luxurious, lush lifestyles led by the rich and famous. The video has had 15 million views on Youtube to date. 2013 started the growth of their impressive Migos net worth and it only increased.
Drake Makes a Move
Hip Hop sensation Drake was so enamored with “Versace” that he approached the young men to make a remix. Of course they agreed and the song made them famous over night. Drake went on to perform the song at the iHeart Radio Music Festival and it was rated number 4 on the list of the best songs of 2013 by Complex.
Riding on the coattail’s of the song’s success the next move was to release the album, Y.R.N, which featured their original version of “Versace”. They collaborated with the likes of Gucci Mane, Soulja Boy and Riff Raff. Y.R.N was named the 6th best album of 2013 by SPIN and the rest, as they say, is history.
Mix Tape Madness
In 2014 Migos, now signed to Atlantic Records, released a mix tape titled No Label 2, it was so popular it was downloaded an incredible 100,000 times in only one week! Their single called “Fight Night” was featured on XXL’s list of 25 Best Songs of 2014 and reached number 69 on the Billboard’s Hot 100, making it the group’s most successful song so far.
The mix tape was met with critical acclaim, Consequence of Sound described it as “the perfect mix of raucous party tunes and triumphant rap anthems for your next BBQ or block party” and Vibe called it “extensive and impressive” It had more than 1,700,000 views on LiveMixtapes.com in 2014 alone. The Migos net worth had now increased substantially with No Label 2 making $270,000
In 2015 on the same day Migos were set to headline at Georgia Southern University’s 2015 Spring concert, the newly famous rappers were all arrested for possession of marijuana, a schedule II drug and firearms. A week after the arrest Quavo and Takeoff were released but Offset remained in jail for a further eight months.
Showing their commitment to success Quavo and Takeoff continued to release music while their fellow group member was still incarcerated. In interviews that followed, offset said it was bittersweet for him to know his band mates were carrying on without him, he said “When I’d talk to them I’d be happy but when I’d get off the phone, I’d have to sit in my room and think about what they are probably doing”.
Future Net Worth Predictions
In January of 2016 Migos went on to release their latest album called YRN 2, tipped to be a major success. They perform three to four times a week earning $40,000 per show. The Migos net worth has gone from $1.5 million in 2011 to $4.3 million in 2016.
Nothing seems to be stopping this talented trio and they have become rather in demand. They have attracted the attention of major record labels such as Interscope and Def Jam ready to pay a hefty sum of approximately $2 million to sign them and have hoards of top names in the industry wanting to collaborate with them. Who knows what their bank balance is capable of reaching.
