With a rap sheet longer than my arm, this talented and famous performer doesn’t let a little thing like a long-term jail sentence get in the way of growing the Gucci Mane net worth. He has released multiple songs while in prison. Gucci Mane has accumulated a substantial bank balance despite being locked up for a good majority of his career.
Gucci Mane Net Worth: $15 million
A net worth of $15 million is an impressive amount considering Gucci Mane has been in jail more often than not. We know him from a few successful albums, featuring on songs with Black Eyed Peas and Mariah Carey, as well as a small role in the Hollywood movie, Spring Breakers.
The Beginning of Gucci Mane
Born Radric Davis on 12th February 1980, Gucci Mane was raised by a single mother in Atlanta, Georgia. He knew he had a love for performing and writing from an early age and began dabbling in poetry and rapping at only 14 years old. 11 years later things would start to change for him.
Debut Album and Debut Crime
Gucci Mane’s debut album was released in 2005, it was called Trap House and sold an impressive 140,000 copies. It was listed on the top 20 of the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts and even reached number 1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Album Chart.
This was largely due to his collaboration with Young Jeezy on the song “Icy” and his net worth slowly began to rise. Sadly things turned a little nasty between the two rappers over song rights and they never collaborated again.
In 2005 Mane served a six month jail term for assault and in the same year was facing murder charges in connection with someone trying to steal a piece of his jewelry… We all know not to mess with a rapper’s bling! He pleaded not guilty and the case was dropped due to insufficient evidence.
Record Deals Over the Years
After leaving prison, Gucci Mane went straight back to the recording studio. In 2006 he released his second album called Hard to Kill featuring the hit single “Freaky Gurl” which reached number 12 on Hot Rap Tracks. And so began a bidding war between the top record labels to sign this talented young rapper. Gucci ultimately decided to go with Atlantic Records and was now on his way to stardom.
In 2007 he released his first studio album called Back to the Trap House. He collaborated with the likes of Lil’ Kim, Ludacris and The Game, which only added to his income.
In 2009 Mane planned to record a second studio album but was sentenced to another year in jail for violating his parole, which stemmed from the 2005 assault charge. Talking about his arrest he said “It was a challenge for me. I’m just happy my team kept my music going strong for me and I’m happy I recorded so many records so people could hear me.”
2009 wasn’t all bad for the rapper though; he signed a contract with Warner Bros. Records and made 17 guest appearances on songs, most famously “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas and “Obsessed” by Mariah Carey. He had now made it into the commercial world of music and the Gucci Mane net worth began to climb significantly. He went on to release an album with Warner Bros. aptly named The State vs. Radric, with great success.
Despite his frequent visits to jail, In 2010 Mane’s net worth had reached an impressive $5 million, placing him on Forbe’s 2010 Hip Hop’s Top Earners.
In 2011, Gucci Mane released his 10th album called, The Return of Mr. Zone 6, produced by Drumma Boy, the EP debuted at 18 on the Billboard 200, and is his highest charting album to date. A string of mixed tapes followed up until 2013.
In 2014 Gucci Mane was cast as bad boy, Archie in the Hollywood movie, Spring Breakers alongside James Franco and Selena Gomez. He said about his role “I’m a good person to play a bad guy in a movie. The enemy of the bad guy. The worst of the bad guys. And that’s what Archie was.” He was paid $100,000 for his role and said he plans to make three of his own movies in the future.
Unfortunately in August 2014 Gucci was arrested on a federal gun charge and was sentenced to 3 years in jail, he is set for release in 2017. That hasn’t stopped him from making music though, he continues to release songs from prison and has reportedly made $1.3 million from iTunes downloads alone.
In a heartfelt open letter from prison he wrote “Dear Fans, If someone asked me to describe who I am? I would say simply I am a man. I am a man that makes mistakes; I am a man that takes pride in getting back up anytime I fall. I am not the typical entertainer.” He goes on to say “I hope my life showed someone somewhere that if you endure the storm you will eventually get your chance to shine. I never give up and I have grown and learned so much and still am eager to learn more.”
Making it Rain
Gucci Mane certainly doesn’t shy away from spending his hard earned cash, he reportedly bought a $200,000 pinky ring encrusted with diamonds. He has always been very public with his car collection, that includes a Jeep Cherokee, Dodge Charger and Bentley Mulsanne. In 2010, Mane was the first person in the USA to own a Ferrari 458 Italia. The estimated total of all four cars is approximately $1 million.
Future Net Worth Predictions
He continues to release music from prison and has plans to release three of his own movies. His income has jumped from $3 million in 2012 to $6 million in 2015-2016, which is pretty damn impressive considering. If his past is anything to go by, we certainly still have a lot to see from this talented rapper.
